Banoffee Pie (Dulce de Leche Banana Toffee Pie)
Tuesday, March 13, 2012
Happy Pi Day! To celebrate 3.14 (or the 14th of March) I made a delicious pi(e) to share with you all. It has everything in it that is good in the world; chocolate, whipping cream, bananas, toffee, etc. Plus, a big bonus is that it is easy to make. Let's get started, shall we?
First, we are going to make some Dulce de Leche. Place a pie plate in a larger, oven-proof container. (I used my roasting pan)
Pour one can Sweetened Condensed Milk in you pie plate.
Cover the pie plate with aluminum foil and seal tightly. Then pour water in your roasting pan until it goes about halfway up your pie plate.
Cook on 425 degrees for 1 hour to 1 hour and 20 minutes until it is this beautiful golden color. Easy, breezy lemon-squeezy.
Once the Dulce de Leche has cooled pour it in your chocolate pre-made pie crust. (In the baking aisle of your favorite grocery store)
Next, slice two bananas about 1/4 inch thick over de Leche.
Then, get this, sprinkle toffee bits over the bananas. I used about 1/2 cup Heath toffee bits.
Now, combine softened cream cheese and brown sugar until well incorporated.
In a separate bowl, mix whipping cream and powdered sugar. Then combine with cream cheese mixture and beat until smooth.
Pour and spread over Heath toffee bits.
So it looks a little like this. Refrigerate several hours or overnight. Enjoy a generous portion of this pie to celebrate pi.
Dulce de Leche Banana Toffee Pie
Recipe by Our Best Bites
Ingredients:
1 8-serving chocolate cookie pie crust
1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
2 bananas
1 cup crushed chocolate-covered toffee bars or Heath bits
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1/4 cup powdered sugar
8 ounces cream cheese (light is fine)
1/4 cup brown sugar
Instructions:
Prepare Dulce de Leche according to these instructions. When done, allow to cool slightly and then spread onto the bottom and up the sides of the cookie crust.
Cut the bananas into 1/4″ slices. Lay the slices over the Dulce de Leche. Sprinkle with about 1/2 of the toffee bits and set aside.
In a large bowl, combine the powdered sugar and heavy whipping cream. Beat with electric beaters until medium peaks form. In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and the brown sugar with the electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add the whipped cream and mix with the electric mixer until fluffy and combined.
Gently spread over the toffee bits and then sprinkle with remaining toffee bits. Chill for several hours before serving. Serves 8-10. Labels: chocolate dessert pie toffee 2 Comments
Oooo, sounds good! I made a cherry and a califlower cheese pie today. Serious carb overload, but who cares. not me.
This is one of my dream pies. YUM!
