Gooey Toffee Butter Cake

 
I am totally craving sweets.  I was flipping through the channels yesterday morning when I saw my buddy Paula Dean on the Food Network.  She made this cake and I thought it looked divine so I made it for my family.  This is a cross between a cake and a bar cookie.  It would be de-lish to serve at a picnic, barbeque or any gathering this summer.  Let them set until cool so they will keep their shape.  Bet you can't eat just one!

 
 Melt one cube of butter.
 Pour yellow cake mix in bowl and add melted butter and one egg.  Mix until combined.
 
 Pour dough into 9x13 inch pan.
  
 Press dough uniformly into pan.
  
 Mix 8 oz cream cheese softened, 1/2 cup melted butter,  two eggs, one teaspoon vanilla and 16 oz. powdered sugar until creamy. 
  
 Add 3/4 to 1 cup Toffee bits (I like the ones with chocolate).
  
 Pour on top of crust.
  
Smooth filling over crust evenly.
  
 Add more toffee bits (of course).
  Cook at 350 for 45-50 minutes until center is jiggly but not runny.
 
Such a ooey gooey treat.

Gooey Toffee Butter Cake

Cake:
1 18 1/4-ounce package yellow cake mix
1 egg
8 tablespoons butter, melted

Filling:
1 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
8 tablespoons butter, melted
1 16-ounce box powdered sugar

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Combine the cake mix, egg, and butter and mix well with an electric mixer.  Pat the mixture into the bottom of a lightly greased 13 by 9-inch baking pan.

In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth.  Add the eggs, vanilla, and butter and beat together.

Next, add the powdered sugar and mix well. Add toffee bits and mix until combined. Spread over cake batter and bake for 40 to 50 minutes.  Make sure not to over bake as the center should be a little gooey.
